Technological progress and push button life style aided by labor saving devices and easy access to food leads to more sedentary life resulting in obesity and dramatic increase in morbidity and mortality.

This is suffered by all age group where younger generation is facing growth faltering, obesity that leads to eating Disorder (along with Amenorrhea / Dysmenorrhea for young girls). On the other hand adult population is facing obesity, CVD (Cardiovascular disease), diabetes, hypertension or osteoporosis.
The problem calls for an emergency measure as the diseases which were confined to privileged group a decade ago, now become common even in low socioeconomic group. CVD is becoming common in younger generations, India is becoming the home for highest number of diabetic population and malnutrition has swing to over-nutrition in all strata of life.

Guidelines for Marathon runners

According to legend, Pheidippides , a greek soldier, was sent from the town of Marathon to Athens to announce the result of the Battle of Marathon. It is said that he ran the entire distance without stopping, but moments after proclaiming his message to the city, he collapsed dead from exhaustion.

The specific legend expresses exactly why a marathon runner, especially an amateur runner should plan the run, know the precautions and learn to identify the danger signals of the body. Today often marathon run of different distances are getting organized even for general sedentary people of different age.

 We need to know the necessary guidelines to be adopted especially by the amateur marathon runner. No other sports push the body’s metabolic stress as far as marathon run might do.
